Future Cyberpunk updates will overhaul police system, add vehicle combat and more

CD Projekt RED’s Night City Wire stream recently concluded, with the developer announcing and releasing patch 1.6 (the Edgerunners update) as well as giving fans their first look at the upcoming Phantom Liberty expansion. CDPR is not yet done with Cyberpunk however, as the game’s director has confirmed that future updates will bring major additions to the game, including an overhaul of the police system as well as vehicle combat.

During the recent Night City Wire stream, alongside the unveiling of patch 1.6, Cyberpunk 2077 director Gabe Amatangelo discussed the game’s long-term updates, claiming that it will eventually see a “complete overhaul to the cop system as well as vehicle-to-vehicle combat.”

Amatangelo continued, saying “We're doing a bunch of stuff in future updates. A new kind of gameplay loop for melee. A bunch of new actions in the perk tree. More cyberware-feeling cyberware. A lot of fun things that the team really wants to get out there to the community.”

With these comments, it appears as though CDPR will be directly addressing some of the fans’ biggest complaints with the game. Cyberpunk’s lacklustre police system was criticised at launch for its shallow AI as well as teleporting police officers. Furthermore, the lack of any real vehicle combat outside of a few scripted sections likewise frustrated fans at launch. Additionally, the cyber element to Cyberpunk 2077 felt undercooked at launch, with only a few pieces of cyberware making for noticeable changes to the gameplay.

These were three of the biggest complaints voiced by fans following the game’s launch back in late 2020 and though it may be quite a while before any of these features are implemented into the game (and even when it does it will only come to current-gen systems), it is encouraging nonetheless to see CDPR willing to make such fundamental changes and additions to the game.

KitGuru Games: Predicting the Next Half a Decade of Call of Duty Releases

Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790) famously once said: “The three absolutes in life are death, taxes and a new Call of Duty coming out every single year”. Sure enough, the US founding father has yet to be proven wrong, with Activision and a dozen studios having ensured that come the tail-end of any given year, there will be a new COD ready to release. And so, what can we expect from the franchise later this year? What about 2027, 2028 or even 2030? By looking back at the past two decades of Call of Duty games, their trends, progression and regression, I believe I can predict the next 5 years worth of annual COD entries.
