Rockstar confirms it was hacked as attackers threaten to leak data

Late last week, a hacking group claimed to have breached Rockstar Games, stealing a selection of data, none of which is believed to be related to Grand Theft Auto 6. Now, Rockstar has confirmed it did suffer a cyber-attack recently.

In a statement sent to press outlets like Kotaku and Insider Gaming, Rockstar confirmed the reports of a hack, saying: “We can confirm that a limited amount of non-material company information was accessed in connection with a third-party data breach. This incident has no impact on our organization or our players.”

The group behind the attack, known as ShinyHunters, claimed to have company data, including financial information, studies on player habits and other information, all obtained from cloud-based servers.

The group has since said that their ransom demand went unpaid and as a result, the stolen information will be released. It does not sound like any information related to Grand Theft Auto 6 will be part of this leak, unlike Rockstar's previous breach in 2022, which did lead to multiple gameplay clips of an alpha version of the game making their way online.
