Intel begins testing 13th Gen Core HX CPUs for laptops

Intel has new high-performance HX laptop CPUs on the way. Recently, an unannounced 13th Gen Core i5-13600HX was spotted in a database, suggesting that engineering samples are now being circulated for testing. 

The BAPCo entry shared by @momomo_us shows the unreleased processor will pack 14x cores and 20x threads, meaning it should pack 6x P-cores and 8x E-cores. Assuming the core configuration is final, the new i5 HX chip will pack two extra P-cores compared to its predecessor, the Core i5-12600HX. Besides the CPU, the system has 32GB of DDR4-3200 memory and uses integrated Xe graphics for video output.

The entry lists the system as “desktop”, but that's likely because the upcoming HX chip uses desktop silicon (Alder Lake-S), as Alder Lake-HX does. The TDP wasn't shared, but considering the similarities with its predecessors, it should be 55W.

Score-wise, the Core i5-13600HX performed slightly below the Core i7-12700H. However, we should note that the Core i5 chip is likely an engineering sample running at lower clocks than the retail version of the Core i7-12700H.

KitGuru says: It's weird to see a successor to the Alder Lake-HX series just four months after its release. In any case, this chip isn't yet available, so it may be some time before we see a laptop equipped with Raptor Lake-HX CPU.
