Gamescom Opening Night Live showcase will feature ‘over 20 games’

Gamescom is coming up later this month and Geoff Keighley has finally begun sharing details on what we can expect from his Opening Night Live showcase. The show will kick off Gamescom on the 25th of August, and will be the first time the event has been held in person since 2019.

Keighley hosted a Twitter Spaces last night to tease the upcoming show. During the session, which VGC transcribed, he claimed that “more than 20 games will be on stage”, and that there will be guest appearances from some big names coming to Germany to reveal their games live in-person.

Overall, the show will run for roughly 2 hours, with the runtime filled up by gameplay clips, new trailers and announcements, as well as the usual awkward on-stage developer interviews.

Gamescom will be taking place as a physical event this year for the first time since August 2019. Xbox recently announced its booth plans for the event, including a huge number of game demos, which attendees can play on the show floor. There will be many other publishers involved too.

KitGuru Games: Predicting the Next Half a Decade of Call of Duty Releases

Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790) famously once said: “The three absolutes in life are death, taxes and a new Call of Duty coming out every single year”. Sure enough, the US founding father has yet to be proven wrong, with Activision and a dozen studios having ensured that come the tail-end of any given year, there will be a new COD ready to release. And so, what can we expect from the franchise later this year? What about 2027, 2028 or even 2030? By looking back at the past two decades of Call of Duty games, their trends, progression and regression, I believe I can predict the next 5 years worth of annual COD entries.
