Kirby 64 is Switch’s NSO Expansion Pack game for May

When Nintendo officially announced its Nintendo Switch Online (NSO) Expansion Pack service, adding Nintendo 64 and SEGA games, many were left wondering just how often it would be supported with new content. Currently, Nintendo is continuing its trend of releasing a new title each month – with Kirby 64 coming later this May.

Making the announcement, Nintendo revealed that Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards would be the next game to be added to Nintendo’s Switch Online Expansion Pack, saying:

“Inhale enemies and combine their abilities in #Kirby's adventure beyond Dream Land! Dozens of puffed-up special powers await you in Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards, floating onto #NintendoSwitch for #NintendoSwitchOnline + Expansion Pack members on 5/20!”

Originally released back in the year 2000, Kirby 64 was the first game in the franchise to utilise 3D graphics and polygonal models instead of the previous games’ pixel art aesthetic. That being said, the title still played very much like a Kirby game, offering a side-scrolling platformer experience.

With Kirby and the Forgotten Land having been released onto the Switch less than two months ago, the addition of one of the franchise’s earlier titles to NSO makes for a nice way to observe the evolution of the Kirby series. Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards will drop onto the NSO Expansion Pack on the 20th of May.
