AMD reveals new Radeon GPU roadmap and details next-gen RDNA 3 architecture

This year at its annual Financial Analyst Day, AMD had some particularly major updates to share. During the event, AMD updated its Radeon roadmap and revealed new details on the upcoming RDNA 3 GPU architecture, and teased RDNA 4 for 2024.

AMD claims the RDNA 3 architecture will bring a 50 percent increase in performance per watt compared to RDNA 2. The new GPU architecture will also be the first to feature Advanced Chiplet Packaging, newly rearchitected Compute Units, new Infinity Cache upgrades and other graphics pipeline optimisations. RDNA 3 will also make the jump from 7nm to a 5nm process node.

The first RDNA 3 graphics cards will release later this year, but AMD has not shared an exact launch date yet. AMD is looking for a quick turnaround from RDNA 3 to RDNA 4 though.

According to the updated roadmap, RDNA 4 is slated for 2024, using an ‘Advanced Node'. AMD has confirmed a similar timeline for its Ryzen CPUs, with Zen 4 arriving this year, and Zen 5 slated to launch in 2024.

Speaking of CPUs, AMD also revealed in its press release that Zen 4 processors should pack an 8% to 10% IPC increase over the previous generation, and a 25% increase in performance per watt. Zen 5 processors will make further gains in performance per watt, and add new optimisations to boost AI and machine learning performance.

KitGuru Says: We're finally starting to get some official details on next-gen graphics cards. Will you be looking to upgrade later this year?
