Bandai Namco confirms recent ransomware attack

Over the course of the pandemic, we've seen a rise in ransomware attacks on major tech and gaming companies. Ubisoft, Crytek, Capcom, CD Projekt Red, EA, Nvidia and more have suffered attacks over the last two years, and now, Elden Ring publisher, Bandai Namco, has also suffered a security breach.

In a press statement, Bandai Namco acknowledged recent rumours of a ransomware attack, confirming that a bad actor managed to gain access to some of the company's systems for its offices in Asia. The attack took place on the 3rd of July, and Bandai Namco has also put new security measures in place.

While we don't know exactly what data was stolen during the breach, Bandai Namco believes that customer information from its Toys and Hobby business division was obtained.

Investigations are still on-going, so more details on the extent of the breach should be revealed eventually. Currently, a group known as ALPHV claims to be behind the attack.

KitGuru Says: Bandai Namco is a huge company that operates multiple businesses outside of games. With that in mind, be wary of any ‘leaks' claiming to reveal the future roadmap for the company's video game publishing division.

KitGuru Games: Predicting the Next Half a Decade of Call of Duty Releases

Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790) famously once said: “The three absolutes in life are death, taxes and a new Call of Duty coming out every single year”. Sure enough, the US founding father has yet to be proven wrong, with Activision and a dozen studios having ensured that come the tail-end of any given year, there will be a new COD ready to release. And so, what can we expect from the franchise later this year? What about 2027, 2028 or even 2030? By looking back at the past two decades of Call of Duty games, their trends, progression and regression, I believe I can predict the next 5 years worth of annual COD entries.
