AMD Ryzen Threadripper Pro 5995WX shows up in first place on PassMark CPU ranking

AMD released the Ryzen Threadripper Pro 5000WX series a few days ago, finally launching the Zen3-based chips that power users and creators waited for. Featuring up to 64x cores with SMT, many thought this would be the most powerful single-socket CPU to date, and according to the PassMark database, it sure is.

A Reddit user found out that PassMark updated the CPU Mark ranking with three AMD Ryzen Threadrippper 5000WX chips: the 5995WX, 5965WX and 5955WX. Currently, the flagship Ryzen Threadrippper 5000WX processor is at the top of the leaderboard with 108,822 points, beating everything else by at least 23%. To put things into perspective, the AMD EPYC 7763 is in second place with 88,338 points.

As for the AMD Ryzen Threadripper 5965WX (24C/48T) and 5955WX (16C/32T), they scored 68,405 and 51,656 points, respectively. Considering that between these two there's the 40C/80T Xeon Platinum 8380, Intel's current top scorer, it looks like the blue team has some catching to do in this segment.

Being the top scorer in a specific benchmark doesn't make the Threadripper 5995WX the best CPU overall. We'll have to wait for more benchmark data and reviews to get the full picture.
