Sledgehammer Games has begun working on its next Call of Duty title

Sledgehammer Games hasn't had the best few years. Back in 2019, Treyarch had to step in and take over development of a previous Call of Duty game, leading to Black Ops Cold War, and now, Sledgehammer's most recent title, Vanguard, has launched to middling reception. Still, the Call of Duty franchise train has to keep moving, so Sledgehammer has begun work on its next major Call of Duty title. 

According to prominent leaker, Tom Henderson, Sledgehammer Games has begun pre-production on its next Call of Duty title. This is in addition to a number of other Call of Duty projects in the works, including Warzone 2, Modern Warfare 2, Treyarch's next game, a new Zombies focused game and new mobile games.

Unfortunately, details on Sledgehammer's next Call of Duty are still thin. We do not know if the studio will go ahead with Vanguard sequels, but we do know that the writers had plans for a trilogy of Vanguard games.

Call of Duty is going through some big changes at the moment too, as Activision has restructured its studios, shifted around support teams and is currently planning a merger with Microsoft. In the midst of all this, Call of Duty 2023 has been pushed to 2024, although we should get Warzone 2 next year instead. Infinity Ward is also on track to release Modern Warfare 2 later this year.
