Splatoon 3 comes to Nintendo Switch this summer

Many fans were disappointed when Nintendo announced that it would cease its post-launch support for Splatoon 2 back in 2019. Fortunately, last summer Nintendo officially announced Splatoon 3, a sequel to the much loved paintball shooter. Last night during Nintendo Direct, we finally got an update on the game, including an official release window.

Splatoon 3 will see the return of the game modes we already know and love, as well as a brand new co-op mode called Salmon Run Next Wave, which debuted in a new trailer last night. In this mode, a team of players will team up to take down a giant salmonid.

Splatoon 3 will be releasing in ‘Summer 2022', so anywhere between June and the end of August. The game is unlikely to slip into September, as Nintendo has another major exclusive coming out at that time – Xenoblade Chronicles 3. With that in mind, if there is a delay, Splatoon 3 will likely be pushed back a bit further to the holiday season.

Splatoon 3 will brings a new area, the Splatlands, as well as a new hub city where players can gather before heading into multiplayer games – Splatsville. Players can also expect a range of new weapons and maps, as well as post-launch content updates, just as we saw with Splatoon 2.

KitGuru Says: I put many hours into Splatoon 2 and was left a bit disappointed when content updates ended a few years ago. However, with Splatoon 3 now just around the corner, I'm looking forward to jumping back in. Did many of you play Splatoon 2 back at launch? Will you be picking up Splatoon 3 later this year?
