Deep Rock Galactic launches board game Kickstarter to overwhelming success

Deep Rock Galactic is a first-person co-op mining game which has seen a great deal of success following its Early Access launch back in 2018 – and later bolstered by being a free PS+ title earlier this year. The IP is now going from video game to board game, as Deep Rock Galactic – The Board Game has been announced on Kickstarter.

As mentioned, Deep Rock Galactic is a first-person co-op mining game where you and your teammates must excavate minerals from down below, all the while navigating the dangerous terrain and fighting off aggressive underground creatures. This gameplay flow is now being translated into a board game.

Playable with 1-4 people, each Deep Rock Galactic match can last from between 1 to 2 and a half hours, and while we don't yet fully know how the board game works, those curious are able to get their hands on an early version of the rule book to digitally flip through.

As with all Kickstarter projects, there are a number of different tiers which one can support with. In this case, those who cough up £55 can get their hands on the standard edition of the game – though the tiers can go up to over £750.

Despite its status as a Kickstarter project, the product’s development is seemingly well underway as Deep Rock Galactic – The Board Game is planned to be delivered by December 2022. If this board game piqued your interest, you wouldn’t be the only one, as shortly after the Kickstarter’s launch, it surpassed its funding goal of £168,287. As of writing, the game has already seen total pledges surpassing £1.2 Million – and it keeps rising. Kickstarter is an excellent way for smaller, more niche products to get made, satisfying both the creators and the fans. It will be interesting to see just how much Deep Rock Galactic – The Board Game ends up making.

KitGuru Games: Predicting the Next Half a Decade of Call of Duty Releases

Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790) famously once said: “The three absolutes in life are death, taxes and a new Call of Duty coming out every single year”. Sure enough, the US founding father has yet to be proven wrong, with Activision and a dozen studios having ensured that come the tail-end of any given year, there will be a new COD ready to release. And so, what can we expect from the franchise later this year? What about 2027, 2028 or even 2030? By looking back at the past two decades of Call of Duty games, their trends, progression and regression, I believe I can predict the next 5 years worth of annual COD entries.
