AMD to introduce Instinct MI250 HPC GPUs and Milan-X CPUs next month

AMD just announced it will hold a new event focusing on future data centre products. Although the company didn't specify what it would show during the event, leakers believe it will include the Epyc “Milan-X” processors with 3D V-cache and the Instinct MI250 HPC GPUs, marking the announcement of the first GPU with an MCM (multi-chip module) design.

We already knew that AMD was planning to launch new CPUs with its new 3D chiplet technology (3D V-cache), but we didn't expect it would be this soon, much less in data centre CPUs. But that's exactly what will happen, at least according to @ExecutableFix and @TDevilfish. Based on the Zen3 architecture with 3D V-Cache (Zen3+), Milan-X CPUs are expected to belong to the Epyc 7x73X series, featuring 4x SKUs with up to 64x cores, 128x threads and up to 768MB of L3 cache.

Besides the Milan-X processors, the leakers also claimed that AMD will introduce the Instinct MI250 series HPC GPUs, officially marking the debut of an MCM-designed product. Intel and Nvidia are also planning to introduce their MCM products with Ponte Vecchio (aka Xe-HPC) and GH100 (Hopper) GPUs, respectively.
