Monster Hunter-like Dauntless gets next-gen patch

For every successful sub-genre, there is a free-to-play alternative. Dauntless is a free-to-play co-op action RPG which shares many similarities to Capcom’s Monster Hunter franchise. Launched back in 2019, the game is now being updated to take advantage of the latest and greatest consoles: namely the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.

Making the announcement on their website, the Dauntless team revealed that “December 2 will mark the official native launch of Dauntless on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S,” adding that “this launch brings seamless cross-generation and full cross-platform support to Dauntless across seven different platforms!”

After establishing that the transition from generations will be relatively seamless, the team showcased the advantages that having a next-gen system would allow for, starting with “exceptionally improved visuals on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. This includes everything from beautiful new lighting and atmospheres, improved view distance, volumetric fog and other effects, to reworked environment textures, trees, water, grass, and higher quality shadows.”

Furthermore, PS5 and Series X players will be able to slay monsters at a dynamic 4K and 60fps. Series S players will still see major improvements, running at 1440p and 60fps.

It is worth noting that the PlayStation 5 update will come with console-specific features, including “in-game support for dynamic adaptive triggers and integrated sound from the DualSense wireless controller for PlayStation 5. You will also be able to enjoy 3D audio. 3D audio places you at the centre of everything in the game, allowing you to truly immerse yourself in the intensity of the sounds.”

The PlayStation and 5 and Xbox Series X brought major enhancements in not only the GPU but CPU side of things, and so games are able to see major gains in a wide number of areas. It is good to see all manner of developers choosing to support the next-gen systems – even if backwards compatibility means that it isn’t strictly necessary.

KitGuru Games: Predicting the Next Half a Decade of Call of Duty Releases

Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790) famously once said: “The three absolutes in life are death, taxes and a new Call of Duty coming out every single year”. Sure enough, the US founding father has yet to be proven wrong, with Activision and a dozen studios having ensured that come the tail-end of any given year, there will be a new COD ready to release. And so, what can we expect from the franchise later this year? What about 2027, 2028 or even 2030? By looking back at the past two decades of Call of Duty games, their trends, progression and regression, I believe I can predict the next 5 years worth of annual COD entries.
