Gamescom 2021: SIFU officially launches in February 2022

 It seems like almost all of 2021’s biggest games have been pushed to 2022. This is an understandable eventuality due to the ongoing COVID-19 situation, the overall difficulty of developing a video game, and the desire to have the best launch possible. One of the games that was pushed out of 2021 was SIFU. Previously not given a release date, the game is now said to be coming in February 2022.

As part of Gamescom 2021’s Opening Night Live, a new trailer for the upcoming third-person action game SIFU was shown off. At the end of the trailer, the game’s new release date was officially confirmed: 22.02.22.

First announced in February earlier this year during the PlayStation State of Play, SIFU is a “third person action game featuring intense hand-to-hand combat,” which “puts you in control of a young Kung-Fu student on a path of revenge”. The game’s unique mechanic – on top of its combat – is the way in which your character ages with every death.

SIFU was originally announced to be releasing in late 2021, though this was later pushed to early 2022 with no definitive date. Now, the studio has put a hard date on the game’s release – hopefully meaning that they are now confident in their ability to ship the game on time.

Delays are always met with a certain degree of disappointment, though it is almost always better for the game in the end. Hopefully the team won’t need to push the game back one more time.
