Battlefield 2042 PS5 playtest pushed back due to ‘critical issue’

There is currently a closed technical test taking place for Battlefield 2042 for PC and Xbox. While a PS5 version of this alpha was planned, DICE has reportedly run into a “critical issue”, leading to its cancellation.

The invite-only test has been live on PC for a few days now, leading to a slew of gameplay leaks. Xbox console owners are also starting to receive invites to the test, but PS5 owners will have to wait a bit longer to try the game out for themselves. As reported by VGC, EA lead community manager, Freeman, confirmed that the technical test will no longer be taking place on PS5 this weekend: “We’ve already identified a Critical issue with our submitted build on PlayStation 5 and have notified folks that we will not be testing on PlayStation 5 this weekend.”

While there was an unforeseen issue with the PS5 version at this time, future playtests should also be available on Sony's console. Additionally, so far, closed testing has been going well for other platforms, with DICE successfully testing server scaling and obtaining useful feedback from network stress testing.

Battlefield 2042 is currently undergoing a series of closed, invite-only playtests on new-gen consoles and PC. An open beta should also take place before launch. Battlefield 2042 is currently planned to release on the 22nd of October.

KitGuru Games: Predicting the Next Half a Decade of Call of Duty Releases

Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790) famously once said: “The three absolutes in life are death, taxes and a new Call of Duty coming out every single year”. Sure enough, the US founding father has yet to be proven wrong, with Activision and a dozen studios having ensured that come the tail-end of any given year, there will be a new COD ready to release. And so, what can we expect from the franchise later this year? What about 2027, 2028 or even 2030? By looking back at the past two decades of Call of Duty games, their trends, progression and regression, I believe I can predict the next 5 years worth of annual COD entries.
