Call of Duty: Vanguard to skip E3, big Warzone refresh incoming

According to reports this week, Activision won't be bringing Call of Duty to E3 this year. Instead, the team is working on a new map for Warzone, as well as various teasers for the next mainline game through Warzone.

According to VGC's sources, rather than revealing this year's Call of Duty: Vanguard at E3, Activision is opting to follow a similar plan to last year's Cold War announcement, with in-game events in Warzone, leading up to a big trailer reveal over the summer. Apparently, Sledgehammer Games is on track to release this year's Call of Duty in November across all platforms, including Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, PS5 and PC.

Of course, Call of Duty: Vanguard is just one part of the story, with a new mainline Call of Duty entry comes a big new map and refresh for Warzone. Apparently, the team is planning an entirely new Vanguard-themed map for Warzone, which will be the team's “largest and most ambitious to date”. The map itself will be set in the Pacific Theatre of World War II and will be significantly bigger than Verdansk.

Currently, Activision is going all-in on Call of Duty, with plans to hire thousands of new developers, as well as shuffling internal studios to support the game.

KitGuru Says: There have been a lot of leaks regarding this year's Call of Duty, including reports of development struggles. Hopefully Activision will be ready for an official announcement soon.

KitGuru Games: Predicting the Next Half a Decade of Call of Duty Releases

Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790) famously once said: “The three absolutes in life are death, taxes and a new Call of Duty coming out every single year”. Sure enough, the US founding father has yet to be proven wrong, with Activision and a dozen studios having ensured that come the tail-end of any given year, there will be a new COD ready to release. And so, what can we expect from the franchise later this year? What about 2027, 2028 or even 2030? By looking back at the past two decades of Call of Duty games, their trends, progression and regression, I believe I can predict the next 5 years worth of annual COD entries.
