Valve and Netflix team up for DOTA animated series

In a surprise announcement last night, Valve announced that it has partnered with Netflix to produce an animated series based on DOTA 2. Not only that, but it is releasing next month. 

Dota: Dragon's Blood comes to Netflix on the 25th of March and is the latest in a string of video-game IPs being adapted for TV on Netflix. The series will consist of eight episodes, telling the story of Davion, “a renowned Dragon Knight devoted to wiping the scourge from the face of the world”.

The series is being animated by Studio MIR, who previously worked on The Legend of Korra, Voltron: Legendary Defender, Young Justice and DC's animated version of The Death of Superman.

Studio MIR is also working on a spin-off animated series based on The Witcher titled ‘The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf'. That series is also due out sometime in 2020.

KitGuru Says: This isn't the first time Valve has experimented with cross-media. At one point, Team Fortress 2 was going to get an animated series on Adult Swim, but those plans were eventually scrapped. JJ Abrams has also publicly discussed plans for a Portal movie previously. This is the first one to actually make its way out though. Will many of you be watching this when it comes out?
