ZeniMax Online forms new studio to work on new IP

ZeniMax Online Studios appears to be putting some of that Microsoft buy-out money to good use. This week, it became known that the developer has formed a second studio in San Diego with the goal of producing a new IP.

Quentin Cobb, an industry veteran that has previously worked at prestigious studios like Naughty Dog, revealed this on Twitter this week. Cobb will be a Senior Game Designer at the new ZeniMax Online studio:

In a subsequent tweet, Cobb also said that this is “the most excited” he has been to work on a project since 2009, indicating that there are some very exciting plans for this new IP.

As you would expect from a new studio, the San Diego branch of ZeniMax Online Studios is indeed hiring. There are also developer positions open at its Maryland and Austin studio locations.

KitGuru Says: We have no idea when this game will see the light of day, but hopefully we'll get some more exciting news in the next couple of years. We can continue to expect some exciting projects from ZeniMax and Bethesda's studios as both are now key pillars of the Xbox Game Studios line-up.

KitGuru Games: Predicting the Next Half a Decade of Call of Duty Releases

Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790) famously once said: “The three absolutes in life are death, taxes and a new Call of Duty coming out every single year”. Sure enough, the US founding father has yet to be proven wrong, with Activision and a dozen studios having ensured that come the tail-end of any given year, there will be a new COD ready to release. And so, what can we expect from the franchise later this year? What about 2027, 2028 or even 2030? By looking back at the past two decades of Call of Duty games, their trends, progression and regression, I believe I can predict the next 5 years worth of annual COD entries.
