Yakuza producer would like to create ‘a completely different’ Sonic game

In recent years, SEGA veteran, Daisuke Sato, has primarily worked on the Yakuza franchise, taking on a producer role for the long-running Japanese crime drama series. As fulfilling as that might be, Sato does have other ambitions, one of which is to work on a Sonic the Hedgehog game.

Speaking during an interview for SEGA's 60th anniversary, Sato explained that he would like to try working on a Sonic game at some point: “After all, when you hear SEGA you think Sonic. I'd like to get involved once at least. But for me, the so-called Sonic is, well, if I were to do it, I wouldn't do Sonic as it was. I would like to make a completely different Sonic.”

Sonic has gone through plenty of ups and downs over the years, with many of the downs coming in the form of 3D Sonic games, which didn't always pull off the transition well.

One thing that could be interesting is a return to the Sonic Adventure series, with a revamped version of the first game's open hub area. Perhaps throw in a few Yakuza-inspired side-activities and mini-games, although I'm not sure anyone wants to see Sonic trying his hand at karaoke.

KitGuru Says: It is always interesting to hear what long-time industry veterans would like to work on. Many of them likely have ideas that will never make their way into a full video game. What would you expect from a Sonic game helmed by a long-time Yakuza producer?

KitGuru Games: Predicting the Next Half a Decade of Call of Duty Releases

Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790) famously once said: “The three absolutes in life are death, taxes and a new Call of Duty coming out every single year”. Sure enough, the US founding father has yet to be proven wrong, with Activision and a dozen studios having ensured that come the tail-end of any given year, there will be a new COD ready to release. And so, what can we expect from the franchise later this year? What about 2027, 2028 or even 2030? By looking back at the past two decades of Call of Duty games, their trends, progression and regression, I believe I can predict the next 5 years worth of annual COD entries.
