Starbreeze is hoping to raise around $26 million for Payday 3 development

Back in May, Starbreeze reported that its financial situation was improving, in large part thanks to renewed development and content for Payday 2. Unfortunately, due to COVID-19, the search for a publishing partner for Payday 3 had hit a wall. Now we know a bit more about the situation and just how much money Starbreeze needs to bring Payday 3 to life.

Over on the Swedish publisher's investor page, we learn that the current goal is to raise around $26 million to fund the game. These fundraising efforts began earlier this year, when Starbreeze sold $5 million worth of shares to raise money for game development. However, it is clear that much more is going to be needed to complete the project.

As we learned in May, Starbreeze had hoped to secure a publisher and additional funding within the first half of 2020. However, with COVID-19 sweeping the world and lock-downs coming into place, meeting publishers to pitch the game has not been possible. This includes potential meetings at GDC, E3 and Gamescom, non of which are holding physical events this year.

At the moment, Starbreeze is hoping to have Payday 3 release in 2023, so there is still a long way to go.

KitGuru Says: I do hope that Starbreeze can find the support it needs. After all, a proper, next-gen Payday 3 could be really great.  Did any of you play the previous Payday games? Are you looking forward to the new one?
