Marvel’s Avengers sold less than 1/3 of Spider-Man’s sales in the UK

While Marvel’s Avengers represents one of the bigger releases for the latter half of 2020 (at least until next-gen consoles arrive), it appears as though the ensemble action-adventure Destiny-like is falling behind compared to one other superhero outing. According to the UK physical sales charts, Marvel’s Avengers’ launch sales are less than 1/3 of 2018’s Marvel’s Spider-Man – despite being a multi-platform game.

As reported by Gamesindustry.biz and ResetEra, the boxed sales for Marvel’s Avengers in the UK reached 56,000 copies across both PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. This represents less than 1/3 of Marvel’s Spider-Man’s sales, which sold 190,000 during the same period on PlayStation 4 alone.

When accounting for the platform sales split, which was reportedly 73% on PS4 and 27% on Xbox One, Avengers sold roughly 40,880 copies on Sony’s Platform; almost 5x fewer copies than Marvel’s Spider-Man.

Of course, it is worth noting that since 2018, digital sales have continued to increase year over year, with 2020 representing a particularly high year for digital sales. As these figures only represent physical copies, it is quite possible that the numbers are more evened out when digital sales are also considered. Furthermore, Marvel’s Avengers is presented as a games-as-a-service title and so — in theory — should have longer legs than Insomniac’s single-player open-world offering.

Regardless, it will be interesting to see more concrete and wide-reaching figures for Marvel’s Avengers once the publisher (or a verified third-party) shares them — and also whether the ensemble title will be able to reach Spider-Man’s 13 million copies sold.

KitGuru Games: Predicting the Next Half a Decade of Call of Duty Releases

Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790) famously once said: “The three absolutes in life are death, taxes and a new Call of Duty coming out every single year”. Sure enough, the US founding father has yet to be proven wrong, with Activision and a dozen studios having ensured that come the tail-end of any given year, there will be a new COD ready to release. And so, what can we expect from the franchise later this year? What about 2027, 2028 or even 2030? By looking back at the past two decades of Call of Duty games, their trends, progression and regression, I believe I can predict the next 5 years worth of annual COD entries.
