Grand Theft Auto 6 reportedly in ‘early development’

Exactly what Rockstar is working on next has been a mystery ever since the launch of Red Dead Redemption 2 back in 2018. With that said, many had assumed that a new Grand Theft Auto was on the cards and now, that has seemingly been confirmed by a report on internal changes at the studio.

Kotaku's latest report on Rockstar's internal culture and how developers are feeling about working at the studio, it was noted that ‘early development' has begun on Grand Theft Auto 6.

This early work is getting under way as Rockstar makes efforts to reduce crunch periods and care more for its workers. According to those still at the studio, the changes so far have been significant enough that they are no longer planning on leaving the studio.

In the case of GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2, there was a five year gap between releases. With that in mind, we likely won't be seeing anything official on GTA VI until 2021, if not 2022. It will also likely be a next-gen console exclusive, possibly with a delayed PC release.
