Unreal Engine 5 revealed with stunning demo running on PS5

There has been plenty of talk around next-generation consoles, but we have heard less about the next-gen engine tech that will enable developers to push graphics further. That changes today, as Epic Games has announced Unreal Engine 5 and showcased what it is capable of in a real-time demo running on the PlayStation 5.

Unreal Engine 4.25 already supports next-gen, current gen and mobile platforms, so developers don't need to wait in order to begin working on next-gen projects. Unreal Engine 5 aims to be ‘forward compatible' too, so when Unreal Engine 5 does arrive, the work done in Unreal Engine 4 should carry over to the new version.

In the video above, you can see what Unreal Engine 5 can look like, in a demo built for and running on Sony's PS5. So while it is technically not a ‘first look' at a next-gen PS5 game, it gives you an idea of how high the graphical bar can be pushed now.

Unreal Engine 5 will enter developer preview in early 2021, with a full release before the end of 2021.
