Gamevice attempts second lawsuit against Nintendo over Switch design

Back when the Nintendo Switch launched, Gamevice filed a patent infringement lawsuit, claiming that the detachable controller design infringes on its own IP. A few weeks ago, Nintendo successfully got that case thrown out, but Gamevice is being persistent, with another legal dispute now coming to light.

This time around, Gamevice is calling on the U.S International Trade Commission to block imports of Nintendo Switch stock and investigate the patent infringement claims. The claims once again pertain to the detachable controllers that the Nintendo Switch ships with.

Gamevice is in the peripheral space and sells controllers intended for use with smartphones and tablets. At one point, it also launched the Wikipad,an Android gaming tablet.

Of course, Nintendo is no stranger to patent infringement lawsuits and has already managed to get a court to take its side once. With that in mind, it seems unlikely that Switch imports will be blocked. However, the ITC has not yet made a decision on whether it will investigate or not.

KitGuru Says: Gamevice is pursuing more legal routes, so we’ll just have to wait and see what happens. So far, the ITC and Nintendo have not commented, so there should be more updates soon.
