Oculus VR hardware sales reportedly paused in Germany

Virtual Reality enthusiasts in Germany might have a difficult time getting hold of any Oculus hardware for a little while. This week, it was reported that Facebook is pausing sales of Oculus Hardware in Germany due to ongoing talks with local regulator officials.

German outlet, Heise.de, received an official statement on the matter from the Facebook/Oculus team: “This is a temporary break due to outstanding talks with German supervisory authorities. We were not obliged to take this measure, but proactively interrupted the sale.”

These discussions with regulators and supervisory authorities have not been detailed at this time, with Oculus simply saying “we cannot talk about details at the moment”. However, the company is “confident that sales can continue soon”.

Anyone who Germany that already owns an Oculus headset can continue using it and the Oculus software platform without worry. Software sales should continue, only buying new consumer hardware is affected – meaning Facebook's VR Enterprise initiative is also uninterrupted.
