AMD begins multi-year partnership with Oxide Games to develop graphics hardware for the cloud

AMD has already got a bit of a foothold in cloud gaming, as Microsoft's Project xCloud runs on AMD silicon, and Google Stadia is powered by AMD Radeon graphics. Now, AMD is also partnering with Oxide Games to further its efforts in the cloud gaming market.

Oxide Games was founded back in 2013 and has been hard at work on its own proprietary ‘Nitrous' Engine. This particular engine is geared towards unlocking untapped potential in multi-core hardware, with eyes now set on cloud gaming.

Speaking about the multi-year partnership to co-develop graphics technologies for the cloud, AMD's Scott Herkelman said: “At AMD, we pride ourselves on our ability to push the boundaries of what technology can do so it elevates the gaming experience. Oxide shares this passion and is an ideal partner for us as we expand the way gamers play, while delivering the quality experience they demand.”

Oxide Games' President, Marc Meyer, also added: “Oxide’s motto is to bring games to life that have never been seen or experienced before. We built the Nitrous Engine specifically with that purpose in mind. AMD’s commitment to gamers and their leadership in pushing the edge of state-of-the-art hardware is a perfect complement to Oxide’s commitment to the same excellence in software.”

KitGuru Says: We will have to wait and see what this partnership brings, which could take a while. Perhaps we'll hear more before the end of this year, or later on in 2021.

KitGuru Games: Predicting the Next Half a Decade of Call of Duty Releases

Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790) famously once said: “The three absolutes in life are death, taxes and a new Call of Duty coming out every single year”. Sure enough, the US founding father has yet to be proven wrong, with Activision and a dozen studios having ensured that come the tail-end of any given year, there will be a new COD ready to release. And so, what can we expect from the franchise later this year? What about 2027, 2028 or even 2030? By looking back at the past two decades of Call of Duty games, their trends, progression and regression, I believe I can predict the next 5 years worth of annual COD entries.
