Wasteland 3 delayed due to ‘logistical challenges’

Recently, Microsoft admitted that some of its first-party game studios are facing challenges shifting to a work-from-home environment due to the COVID-19 outbreak. Now, we've got our first game delay, with InXile's Wasteland 3 pushed back to August.

The game was originally due to release on May 19th across PC, Xbox One and PS4. However, due to “logistical challenges”, additional time is going to be needed. As a result, Wasteland 3 is now due to release on the 28th of August.

In a statement posted to Twitter last night, Brian Fargo, InXile Studio Head, explained the situation: “As with most companies, we moved to a work-from-home environment some weeks ago, and that's of course introduced new challenges that many of us throughout the world have been learning to manage”.

“We've been excited to see the Wasteland 3 beta so well received, but the reality is that with these new logistical challenges our release was going to be impacted.”

That extra development time is being put into acting upon beta feedback, further optimisations, polishing, refinements and evaluating suggestions from beta players. Ultimately, InXile hopes that this extra time will “ensure this is a stellar product on day one”.

KitGuru Says: Working from home is a big adjustment and in something as collaborative as game development, I can see how it would end up being a disruption. Hopefully the new August release date sticks. Have any of you tried the Wasteland 3 beta? Are you still looking forward to the final release?

KitGuru Games: Predicting the Next Half a Decade of Call of Duty Releases

Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790) famously once said: “The three absolutes in life are death, taxes and a new Call of Duty coming out every single year”. Sure enough, the US founding father has yet to be proven wrong, with Activision and a dozen studios having ensured that come the tail-end of any given year, there will be a new COD ready to release. And so, what can we expect from the franchise later this year? What about 2027, 2028 or even 2030? By looking back at the past two decades of Call of Duty games, their trends, progression and regression, I believe I can predict the next 5 years worth of annual COD entries.
