European alternative to Unreal and Unity is in development

Guerrilla Games co-founder and former Epic Games director Arjan Brussee has announced the development of The Immense Engine, a new graphics rendering platform pitched as a European alternative to Unreal Engine and Unity.

Speaking on the Dutch podcast De Technoloog (via VGC), Brussee detailed his new startup's mission to provide a region-hosted solution that complies with European data regulations and reduces reliance on American and Chinese technology.

The Immense Engine is designed with a “modular, agentic AI” architecture rather than a traditional monolithic stack. Brussee argues that established engines were built for manual, menu-driven workflows, whereas his platform will utilise integrated AI agents to handle complex tasks. According to Brussee, a properly implemented framework of AI agents could allow a single developer to handle the workload of 10 to 15 people.

Beyond game development, the engine is targeting 3D simulations for logistics and defence sectors. Brussee emphasised that because the platform will be hosted entirely in Europe, it offers data sovereignty for government and industrial projects that require strict regional compliance. The technology will rely on cloud resources while maintaining a “Europe-first” hosting strategy to differentiate itself from U.S. competitors.
