Microsoft unveils ROG Xbox Ally X handheld with Ryzen Z2 Extreme APU

A small portion of the Xbox Games Showcase was dedicated to hardware. During the showcase, Microsoft officially revealed its new collaboration with Asus ROG, resulting in a new Xbox-themed ROG Ally gaming handheld.

The ROG Xbox Ally X is arriving this holiday season. It is a new take on the ROG Ally, with a redesigned control scheme that takes more inspiration from the standard Xbox controllers we're all used to. That means proper handles for the device, dedicated buttons to activate new gaming UI elements coming to Windows 11, and the ability to hold the Xbox button to swap apps, so you can easily transition from the Xbox app to Steam to Battle.net without needing to rely on the desktop Windows UI.

The ROG Xbox Ally X is powered by a Ryzen Z2 Extreme processor. These new APUs were announced back in January, featuring up to 8 cores and 16 threads, with a max boost speed of 5GHz, along with up to 16 GPU cores for graphics. The APU will be more than capable of running AAA titles, and with an up to 35W TDP, users should expect higher performance than lower-power devices like the Steam Deck.

There is no price tag announced yet, but we expect more details on the launch plans for this very soon.

One year on from the game’s release on Xbox and PC, Avowed is now officially available on Sony’s PlayStation 5 – released in alignment with the game’s big anniversary update.
