Skate will launch into Early Access in September

It's the news that skateboarding fans have been waiting 15 long years to hear. EA and developer Full Circle have officially announced that their new free-to-play title, simply called Skate, will be launching into early access on September 16th for PC, PlayStation, and Xbox consoles.

The release date was revealed in a new trailer that starts in the form of a pseudo-nature documentary with a narrator observing the skaters of “San Vanamsterdam” in their natural habitat. The trailer gives us a new look at the game's fictional city while showing off a highlight reel of slick tricks and the brutal, physics-based bails the series is known for.

The new studio, which was formed specifically for this project, has been tasked with resurrecting the “flick it” control scheme that made the original games so popular. After years of playtesting, we will soon see if this new live-service approach can capture a new generation of players while satisfying the die-hard fans who have been waiting for over a decade.

Confirming its strategy to bring the cult-classic franchise to the biggest possible audience, the studio has reiterated that Skate will be a free-to-play title. The game will also support cross-play and cross-progression across all of its launch platforms, which include PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S. The previously mentioned mobile version was absent from this announcement.

KitGuru Games: Predicting the Next Half a Decade of Call of Duty Releases

Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790) famously once said: “The three absolutes in life are death, taxes and a new Call of Duty coming out every single year”. Sure enough, the US founding father has yet to be proven wrong, with Activision and a dozen studios having ensured that come the tail-end of any given year, there will be a new COD ready to release. And so, what can we expect from the franchise later this year? What about 2027, 2028 or even 2030? By looking back at the past two decades of Call of Duty games, their trends, progression and regression, I believe I can predict the next 5 years worth of annual COD entries.
