Netflix’s animated ‘Splinter Cell: Deathwatch’ series premieres this October

For the past few generations we’ve seen Ubisoft move away from many legacy franchises, ignoring its classics including the likes of Rayman; Call of Juarez and of course Splinter Cell. While we’ve been patiently waiting for the previously-announced remake since 2021, the (even-longer-in-development) animated Netflix adaptation ‘Splinter Cell: Deathwatch’ has now gotten an official trailer and release date.

Releasing the official teaser trailer to YouTube, Netflix finally showed off the long-awaited Splinter Cell: Deathwatch. First announced all the way back in 2020, we’d heard essentially nothing from the show since. That said, the project has now emerged from the shadows, giving us a first look at the show alongside its release date.

Set to premiere on the 14th of October, Splinter Cell: Deathwatch stars Liev Schreiber as an aged version of series protagonist Sam Fisher following on from 2005’s Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory – though it has not been directly stated whether the show will be canon.

While ostensibly a stealth-focused franchise, Deathwatch looks to be leaning somewhat into the action side of the series, having John Wick’s creator/writer Derek Kolstad helming the project.

As mentioned, the Splinter Cell series has been dormant for quite some time, with the last entry in the franchise launching all the way back in 2013. That said, Ubisoft did announce back in 2021 that they were working on a remake of sorts for the franchise – though we’ve heard little else from the project since.

With all that in mind, while Splinter Cell: Deathwatch may not be the long-awaited next entry in the much-loved stealth action series, it does indicate that Ubisoft still has plans for Sam Fisher.

KitGuru Games: Predicting the Next Half a Decade of Call of Duty Releases

Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790) famously once said: “The three absolutes in life are death, taxes and a new Call of Duty coming out every single year”. Sure enough, the US founding father has yet to be proven wrong, with Activision and a dozen studios having ensured that come the tail-end of any given year, there will be a new COD ready to release. And so, what can we expect from the franchise later this year? What about 2027, 2028 or even 2030? By looking back at the past two decades of Call of Duty games, their trends, progression and regression, I believe I can predict the next 5 years worth of annual COD entries.
