Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater multiplayer won’t be coming at launch

Konami has locked in the launch details for Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater. The good news is that the whole single-player campaign is just around the corner, arriving on August 28th. However, players looking to test their stealth skills against others will have to wait a bit longer, as the game's new multiplayer mode will be released as a post-launch update.

According to the Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater X account, the online component, named “Fox Hunt”, is scheduled to arrive sometime in the fall of 2025. Konami has already stated that this is not a remake of the classic Metal Gear Online. Instead, Fox Hunt is a brand-new concept explicitly designed for the new game, focusing on smaller-scale “cat-and-mouse” stealth encounters in the jungle.

While Konami hasn't given a specific reason for the delay, it's not entirely surprising. The remake itself seems like a massive technical overhaul of the original, built from the ground up in Unreal Engine 5 with new motion capture, animations, and controls. Pushing the multiplayer mode back likely gives the development team more time for nailing down the details. Hopefully, this extra time will help avoid the kind of messy launches that have plagued other titles in the past.

The important thing is that Konami has confirmed Fox Hunt will be a free update for everyone who purchases the base game. For now, fans can look forward to diving into the single-player story when Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater launches on August 28th for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.

KitGuru Games: Predicting the Next Half a Decade of Call of Duty Releases

Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790) famously once said: “The three absolutes in life are death, taxes and a new Call of Duty coming out every single year”. Sure enough, the US founding father has yet to be proven wrong, with Activision and a dozen studios having ensured that come the tail-end of any given year, there will be a new COD ready to release. And so, what can we expect from the franchise later this year? What about 2027, 2028 or even 2030? By looking back at the past two decades of Call of Duty games, their trends, progression and regression, I believe I can predict the next 5 years worth of annual COD entries.
