Star Trek: Bridge Crew can now be played without a VR headset

Ubisoft launched its biggest virtual reality game to date earlier this year in the form of ‘Star Trek: Bridge Crew'. The game had a big showing at E3 in 2016, followed by an official launch in May 2017. Since its launch, the game has been exclusive virtual reality headset owners, whether its the PSVR, Oculus Rift or HTC VIVE. Now, to give the multiplayer spaceship simulator another push, Ubisoft is opening it up to non-VR headset owners too.

The latest patch for Star Trek: Bridge Crew makes some graphical improvements to the game. It adds ‘enhanced' support for Windows 10 Mixed Reality headsets, and finally, eliminates the VR headset requirement. This means any PC owner with a regular monitor can enjoy the game and still play cross platform with PC, PS4 and VR.

This move will open the game up to more players, which will hopefully breathe some new life into the game. Aside from all of this, the game's director added that additional content is also coming up.

KitGuru Says: This isn't the first time we've seen a VR-only game open itself up. Previously Eve: Valkyrie relaunched on PC as a cross-platform VR and non-VR space shooter.
