DICE promises no ‘over the top’ skins for Battlefield 6

In recent years, crossover skins for shooters like Call of Duty have become increasingly more ridiculous, with plenty of celebrity guest appearances, alongside immersion-breaking crossovers with film and TV IP. If you are a Battlefield fan, it sounds like you won't have to worry about any of that with Battlefield 6, as the game's design director has promised to keep the game ‘grounded'.

A big talking point from the Battlefield 6 multiplayer reveal event was DICE's commitment to a more realistic aesthetic, particularly when it comes to cosmetics. Design Director Shashank Uchil told DBLTAP that the new game will not be following the trend of wild crossover skins that have become common elsewhere.

This back-to-basics approach appears to be the guiding principle for the entire game. EA Vice President, Vince Zampella, recently echoed these sentiments, explicitly calling Battlefield 6 a “spiritual successor” to the franchise's heyday. It seems the team is focused on recapturing the gritty, infantry-focused feeling that made Battlefield 3 and Battlefield 4 so beloved by the community.

This is all likely part of EA's strategy to meet its reported, and very ambitious, goal of attracting 100 million players to the new title. For a fanbase that has been vocal in its desire for a return to form, this news is very welcoming. Battlefield 6 is set to launch on October 10th for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series S|X.

KitGuru Games: Predicting the Next Half a Decade of Call of Duty Releases

Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790) famously once said: “The three absolutes in life are death, taxes and a new Call of Duty coming out every single year”. Sure enough, the US founding father has yet to be proven wrong, with Activision and a dozen studios having ensured that come the tail-end of any given year, there will be a new COD ready to release. And so, what can we expect from the franchise later this year? What about 2027, 2028 or even 2030? By looking back at the past two decades of Call of Duty games, their trends, progression and regression, I believe I can predict the next 5 years worth of annual COD entries.
