The UK has been suffering from quite a bit of inflation over the past few years, with video game consoles and other hardware seeing price increases as a consequence. Inflation has seemingly gotten so bad that it is even impacting Fortnite’s local economy, with Epic Games increasing the price of its V-Bucks from next month.
Making the announcement on their blog, the Fortnite team detailed the price increase, saying “Following our last Pricing Alignment in 2021, we are making adjustments to V-Bucks prices and our content Packs in the United Kingdom, Canada, and Mexico starting July 17, 2023, based on economic factors like inflation and currency fluctuations.”
Previously, purchasing 1000 V-Bucks would cost you £6.49. This has now been increased to £6.99. The higher tiers – alongside Fortnite's many character packs – have also seen price hikes:
- Intrepid Engines Pack (£3.19 > £3.49)
- Full Clip Pack (£12.99 > £13.99)
- 2,800 V-Bucks (£15.99 > £17.49)
- 5,000 V-Bucks (£25.99 > £27.99)
- 13,500 V-Bucks (£63.99 > £69.99)
While not a significant increase, the price hike means that Fortnite’s already-costly packs and character skins are now becoming even more so. Hopefully we don’t start seeing other live-service titles increasing their own ‘micro’ transactions.
