Sea of Thieves gets a release date and a new trailer

Microsoft and Rare have been teasing Sea of Thieves for a long time now. At this point, we have a pretty good idea of what the game will be and quite a few have already had the chance to try it out in various alpha/beta tests. Now, we are gearing up to release, with Microsoft announcing that Sea of Thieves will be launching on the 20th of March.

The announcement was made last night at The Game Awards. The reveal occurred in between other trailers and advertisements, so it flew under the radar a bit. Here is the release date announcement trailer featuring some gameplay footage:

If you want to try and get your hands on it ahead of time, then you can register to be part of the pre-release testing phase. Over the course of 2017, Rare expanded its technical test pool from 1,000 players to almost 200,000. However, a few weeks back, the studio expanded things even further, opening up the game to anyone who is signed up to the Windows/Microsoft Insider Program.

Sea of Thieves will officially launch on the 20th of March 2018.

KitGuru Says: I'm looking forward to Sea of Thieves, particularly given how long it has been since Rare launched a new game. Hopefully between this and Crackdown 3, we'll start to see Microsoft back on track when it comes to new exclusives.
