Sonic the Hedgehog set to star in new TV show

Sonic the Hedgehog, one of gaming's most iconic characters, is set to debut in a new TV show based on his fantastical world. Known as “Sonic Boom,” it will be Sega's first fully CG animated show and is set to debut on Cartoon Network some time this autumn.

Veteran TV writer and producer, Bill Freiberger has been hired on to take the helm. Experienced in writing for several respected sit-coms and animated shows (including Herman's Head, Men Behaving Badly, the Simpsons and Drawn Together), he's expected to work closely with the head of Sonic Team at Sega, Takashi Iizuka, to make sure it's in keeping with the universe that's been created around the iconic character.

Is that Knuckles? God damn dude. Someone's been hitting the gym.

Also on board is Evan Baily, who previously worked at Classic Media, producing shows like Lazytown, the George of the Jungle animated show and more recently, Turok: Son of Stone.

“Sonic is the star of the SEGA universe and the stage is now set for him to shine like never before,” said Hiroyuki Miyazaki, SEGA’s chief content officer for Sonic (via Variety). Through the new TV series, “we’re ensuring that the Sonic legacy will be introduced to a new generation of children across the globe.”

KitGuru Says: There were two Sonic animated shows on when I was a kid. The really good one and the really bad one. Guess which one I had the pleasure of watching? Go on guess. I'm waaiitttiinnggg
