Drown unveils ‘tactile earphones for gaming’

Drown has announced the “world's first tactile earphones for gaming”, and in an effort to describe the new product, the earphone manufacturer said that the device “activates all 3 audio pathways to your brain for enhanced situational awareness and a fully immersive audio experience.”

The Scottish company Drown said that its tactile earphones utilises a combination of three factors to accomplish a unique sound experience – with all three aspects building on the fact that all sound is transmitted through waves or vibrations in one form or another.

The first part is the usage of “patented acoustic waveguides sculpt sound waves through a custom tactile system” that are said to be scientifically tuned. The second step is to create spatial awareness through nerve stimulation. This is how height, depth, and distance is perceived, and by adding spatial awareness Drown says that it “makes you feel like you’re in the game!”

The third and final step is to create physical awareness through bone and cartilage conduction – which is how sound in the real world is felt and perceived. The earphones are compatible with anything “that has an audio jack”.
