Gigabyte launches its first super-wide OLED monitor

OLED technology has been gaining popularity in gaming, primarily for its strong contrast, colour experience, and responsiveness. The Gigabyte Aorus CO49DQ is a perfect example of a monitor aimed at immersive gaming with its massive screen size, which is also useful for productivity.

The Gigabyte Aorus CO49DQ features a 49-inch Samsung QD-OLED panel with an 1800R curvature and a resolution of 5120 x 1440 (32:9 ultrawide), which is equivalent to having two 27-inch 16:9 QHD displays side by side. The panel is defined as ‘non-glare,' which implies that it will have the typical glossy anti-reflective screen surface observed on QD-OLEDs.

The monitor also features Adaptive-Sync, a 144Hz refresh rate, and technologies such as G-Sync Compatibility and AMD FreeSync to be utilised with an assumed 48-144Hz VRR range + LFC. It also boasts a 1.5M:1 static contrast ratio, 10-bit colour support, and 178°/178° viewing angles. Moreover, it has a typical brightness of 250 cd/m2 (1000 cd/m2 peak) and a 99% DCI-P3 colour gamut coverage. The panel is rated with a 0.03ms G2G response time.

The stand connects to the screen in the centre with a quick-release mechanism that allows for simple removal, exposing a 100x100mm VESA mounting mechanism. The only ergonomic options for the screen are tilt and swivel. A 3.5mm headphone jack, 2x HDMI 2.1 ports, a DP 1.4 (with DSC and HBR3), USB-C (18W PD, DP Alt Mode, upstream data), a USB 3.0 Type-B upstream, and 2x USB-A 3.0 connections are available too. KVM is supported for convenient peripheral sharing and display switching between two computers, as is PiP/PbP. Additionally, the monitor contains two 5W speakers.

KitGuru says: We're still awaiting pricing confirmation but like other 49-inch super-wide OLED displays, we expect it to be expensive.
