Kim Dotcom in second place of Time’s 100 most influential people list

Megaupload founder and legally embattled Kim Dotcom, has found himself almost at the top of the Time's 100 most influential people list, beating out giant names like President Barack Obama (by almost 10x the number of votes), North Korea's Kim Jong Un and the gamer's favourite Markus “Notch” Persson.

At the time of writing, Dotcom has 108,230 votes in his favour, with just over 9,000 votes against. The only person beating him at the moment is President of Egypt, Mohamed Morsi. He has 160,803 votes for, but far more against: 212,920.

Dotcom of course tweeted about his placement, suggesting that if he didn't die now – happy – perhaps he'd enter politics, since he clearly has some impressive support.

While lists like this are probably more of an indication about the sorts of audiences that vote for online lists like this, it's certainly interesting to see characters like Dotcom up their with world leaders, suggesting that the kind of ideals that Dotcom has embodied over the past year are in the forefront of many people's minds.

One of the most influential people last year (also pictured above) was comedian Louis CK, who has become a bit of a household name, despite his claims that he isn't deserving of the honour.

Kitguru Says: An interesting turn out but understandable. While Dotcom is still a multi-millionaire dealing with multi-millionaire problems, some of the issues he's raised about copyright and law enforcement encroachment on civil rights, have certainly helped people sit up and take notice.
