AMD’s latest Radeon driver promises notable performance gains in Prey

We have known for some time now that Bethesda and AMD have partnered up to optimise future games for Ryzen CPUs and Radeon GPUs. The first game to benefit from this partnership is Prey, which launches today. To mark the occasion, AMD has shipped a new Radeon Software update, which will bring notable performance gains to those playing with 500-series graphics cards.

Radeon Software Crimson ReLive 17.5.1 is the latest driver, containing various optimisations for Prey. Nvidia also has a ‘Game Ready' driver out, though the green team were less specific about performance gains.

Here is a breakdown of the performance gains AMD observed through its testing:

  • Up to 5% faster performance using Radeon Software 17.5.1 with Prey DirectX 11 on the 8GB Radeon RX 580 than with Radeon Software 17.4.4
  • Up to 78% faster performance using Radeon Software 17.5.1 with Prey DirectX 11 on 4GB Radeon RX 570 multi-GPU than with 4GB Radeon RX 570 single-GPU
  • Up to 42% faster performance using Radeon Software 17.5.1 with Prey on the Radeon RX 570 (4GB) with Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050Ti (4GB) on NV 381.89 with DirectX 11 at 1920×1080 (1080p)
