Bandai Namco trademarks ‘Once Upon a KATAMARI‘

The Katamari series is a highly unique experience on pretty much all fronts: from the games’ stories to visuals, music, gameplay and more. Unfortunately, we have not seen a new mainline entry in well over a decade. That said, following a bunch of remasters/remakes, it seems as though a brand new Katamari is on its way, with Bandai Namco recently trademarking the name ‘Once Upon a KATAMARI‘.

As reported by Gematsu, publisher Bandai Namco recently trademarked the name ‘Once Upon a KATAMARI‘ in Europe, sparking hope that a brand new entry could be announced soon.

This would mark the first new game since 2011’s Touch My Katamari for the PS Vita. As mentioned however, in recent years we’ve gotten remakes for some of Katamari’s older entries in the form of Katamari Damacy Reroll and We Love Katamari Reroll+ Royal Reverie.

Furthermore, almost exactly one year ago in celebrating the series’ 20th anniversary, Bandai Namco hinted at the possibility of new games in the future. Hopefully we won’t have to wait long for an official announcement.
