Hero Shooter Paladins is being shut down on Nintendo Switch

Last week we reported that the free-to-play 3rd person shooter Rogue Company (from publisher Hi-Rez) was being shut down and delisted from the Nintendo Switch platform due to the system’s aged processor and mobile-focused hardware leading to substandard performance. Following this announcement, Hi-Rez has now confirmed that the hero shooter Paladins will also be removed from the Switch.

Making the announcement on their blog, the Paladins’ dev team said “Greetings Champions,

After lots of discussion and thought across our team, we’ve made the difficult decision to end support for Paladins on Nintendo Switch, with the final update it receives being Midnight Masquerade. This choice wasn’t made easily or without concern, however we realized that the performance of our Switch port was not up to our or community standards and we were unable to provide support at the level our community deserves.”

According to the team “We spent countless hours working on platform-specific problems, and dedicated ourselves to solutions as long as we could, as recently as the work done for Payload; however, this has caused frequent challenges that prevent Paladins from being the best game it could be.”

Paladins on Nintendo Switch is being delisted from the eShop today, with the game and any DLC being no longer accessible. That said, those who already own the title on Switch can continue to play up until late June, when a final update will make the game no longer playable.

Having played Paladins on Switch in the past, the port itself was impressive in some ways – with it running at 60fps – though the visuals were certainly not eye-pleasing. In the months and years since it seems as though each new update has made the Switch port less and less stable, and so while news of its delisting might disappoint some, it seems to ultimately be the correct decision.
