Aside from a few minor outliers, Capcom has been on a generational run, with the publisher’s suite of new and legacy IPs proving to be both critical and commercial hits. Following on from the success of Resident Evil Requiem, Pragmata and Onimusha: Way of the Sword, Capcom has now announced that the Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy has officially sold over 5 million copies.
Taking to BlueSky to make the announcement, the official Ace Attorney page confirmed that their trilogy compilation package has hit a major sales milestone, writing:
“HOLD IT! We're pleased to announce that Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy has sold over 5 million copies! We want to thank everyone who has gone through all the trials and tribulations to seek the truth and deliver justice for all! We couldn't have done it without you!”
While 5 million copies is nothing to sniff at, it is worth noting that the Ace Attorney Trilogy has existed in one form or another for over a decade – first arriving back in 2014 for the Nintendo 3DS (later coming to other consoles in 2019; subsequently being updated just last year).
Even so, this is a major achievement for what is one of Capcom’s smaller franchises. For context, the publisher revealed back in late 2023 that the Ace Attorney franchise as a whole had only just hit 10 million copies across all releases.
Since then, in no small part due to the success of the trilogy collection, the franchise’s lifetime sales have increased by a matter of 50%, now sitting at 15 million units in total.
As mentioned, while the Ace Attorney Trilogy has been available on most platforms since 2019, the game was updated late last year with a number of welcome additions, including:
- New language support
- Music Player
- Gallery
- Scene Creator
- Quality-of-life improvements
Whether these enhancements are the reason for the game’s uptick in sales remains unknown. Either way, be it through word of mouth, an influx of memes or just a general desire for new games in this underserved franchise, Ace Attorney appears to be having a major resurgence.
Hopefully a brand new entry is announced at some point (especially given that Capcom themselves claim to want to turn the series into a “core IP”).
