Capcom’s Pragmata has been a long time coming, with the new 3rd-person sci-fi shooter / strategy game first being announced prior to the launch of the PlayStation 5. Following multiple rounds of delays, the unique-looking title is finally almost here, set to land across all platforms this Friday. Ahead of its arrival, critic reviews for Pragmata have now gone live, currently sitting as the highest-rated new IP from a AAA studio in 2026.
With a Metacritic score of 86 and an OpenCritic rating of 87, Capcom’s Pragmata is so far landing as the highest-rated new IP for 2026 – in the AAA space at least.
Of course, there have been plenty of indies and sequels to top these figures already (such as Capcom’s own Resident Evil Requiem at 89), but the critical success for what is a rather experimental title from a new IP is welcome to see.
Despite first being shown off 6 years ago now, the concepts created for Pragmata remain fresh and innovative, with many critics praising its unique gameplay and surrounding mechanics. The primary downside appears to be in its narrative, with some calling it “generic” yet “charming.”
All-in-all, it appears as though the long wait for Pragmata was worth it, with the half-a-decade old yet brand-new IP having the potential to be “the new star franchise of Capcom.”
With Pragmata’s world building, lore and core gameplay systems now all in place, it will be highly curious to learn whether Capcom chooses to iterate on what could be their next breakout hit.
It will be interesting to see what fans think of the game when it arrives later this week.
