Redfall will not have any microtransactions nor an in-game store

Back in 2021 leaked screenshots from a playtest of the upcoming first-person co-op vampire hunting game Redfall seemed to suggest that the game would feature an in-game store with some form of microtransactions. Fortunately, between then and now, the team at Arkane seem to have reconsidered, as it has now been confirmed that Redfall will not feature anything of the sorts, but will still be the team’s most supported game to date.

Arkane Austin recently held a preview event for Redfall in which select publications were invited to try the game ahead of its release on the 2nd of May. The game seemingly did not feature any in-game store, with Wccftech seeking clarification from Redfall’s creative director ‘Harvey Smith’ – to which they responded:

“We try to be very clear that there are no microtransactions and there is no store in the game. We're very proud of that. If you find a costume in the game, then you can have it, as simple as that.”

In-game stores and microtransactions tend to be one of the primary ways that developers justify post-launch support for a game. Fortunately, despite there being no such inclusions in Redfall, the game is set to see a great deal of post-launch content, with Smith claiming that:

“Redfall will be our most supported game post-launch. We went with a server model, so we can update the game constantly. If we see a lot of people falling from ladders and dying, we can update the ladder code. If we see that nobody is playing this character, we can tweak this character and make them more appealing. We have plans for additional guns, costumes, monsters, characters, and more that we can't talk about right now. But we have a strong year of updates, and it's all either in the current game or it will be DLC. We try to do it as fairly as possible for people.”

Redfall may not have had the most exciting initial reveal, however as time has gone on, the game seems to be shaping up very nicely. The fact that Redfall will not have any microtransactions is highly welcome news indeed, and makes the game that much more exciting.
