Apple may release a thinner Macbook this year

According to supply chain sources, Apple is preparing a thinner Macbook for release later this year, although it has not been specified whether it's going to a part of the Pro or Air line of notebooks. The current Macbook Pro with Retina display comes in at 1.8cm thick while the smaller and lighter Macbook air measures in at just 1.7cm at its thickest point, tapering off to a tiny 3mm.

The new model will presumably be revealed in October, when Apple usually launches the latest version of OS X and refreshes its iPad and Macbook lines. This news comes from Taiwanese publication, DigiTimes, which quoted supply chain makers in the country, which claim that production on parts has already begun, albeit in small numbers.

We won't know for certain what Apple's plans are for the Macbook lineup until the company holds its annual event in October, although its very likely that we will see some leaks beforehand. In addition to new Macbook rumors, there have been plenty of reports this week stating that we can expect to see the iWatch launch alongside the iPhone 6.

If you don't feel like waiting until October to pick up a Macbook Pro then now isn't a bad time as the company very recently cut prices down across its whole range. The entry level non-retina Macbook Pro can now be had for £899 while the 13 Inch retina display model comes in at £999.

KitGuru Says: The Macbook Pro range hasn't seen any major changes since the addition of a high resolution ‘Retina' display- It will be good to see if Apple can shake things up a bit this year. Do any of you guys own a Macbook Pro? Are you thinking about upgrading this year? I just put a new SSD in mine to give it a bit of a performance boost. Hopefully I'll get another year or two out of it before I upgrade.
