Sony stop production of Playstation 2

Sony Computer Entertainment of Japan have stopped production of the Playstation 2 console. Games however will continue to be produced for the aging but ever popular console.

The Playstation 2 is a success story and is rated as the second best selling console of all time, with more than 150 million units sold worldwide since 2000.

The news of the production stop has fueled rumours now that Sony are preparing to launch their next generation Playstation 4 console.

The current Playstation 3 console has sold 70 million units as of November 4th 2012.
