AMD Phenom II X4 975 Black Edition Review – overclocking performance

This is the first stage of our overclocking phase. Reaching 3.8ghz was easy enough and didn't require any voltage tweaks at all, however to get 4ghz stable, a little core voltage increase is required.

To achieve 4ghz stable we simply increased the CPU ratio to x20. We also disable AMD Cool n' Quiet. The joys of owning a Black Edition mean you aren't tied into increasing FSB speed to raise the CPU clocks.

The CPU voltage needed increased to 1.45v for complete stability. Different motherboards might need a few other voltage tweaks for complete stability, but this MSI board is really solid, especially with the FSB at the reference settings.

System validation is available over here.
