Sony speaks out on PS4 hardware issues

The Playstation 4 launched in the US just last week and since then we’ve heard of some issues, but after some investigation in to each complaint, Sony has narrowed down the amount of faulty PS4′s to less than 1% of the 1 million sold. For those who don’t feel like doing the maths, that equates to about 10,000 consoles affected.

While speaking to IGN a Sony representative confirmed that if you’re one of the 10,000 affected then Sony will work on getting you a new console: “We understand the frustration of consumers that have had a problem and are working with them and our retail partners to help troubleshoot issues and ensure affected units are exchanged.”

With such a huge amount of consoles being manufactured, a few bad units were bound to escape in to the wild and while it is a shame, Sony is acting fast to help those affected. While Sony was at it, it wanted to address the slew of one star Amazon reviews that paint a picture of a much more wide-spread problem:

“Rumours online stating that PlayStation customer service is informing people that it will take six weeks to get a replacement unit. Those rumors are false. Our customer support team is exchanging units with new replacements immediately and with expedited shipping.”

10,000 is a small number in the grand scheme of things but that’s still 10,000 angry people, so if you think you’re affected, take a look at Sony’s troubleshooting guide before freaking out.

Kitguru says: It seems that there is no such thing as a perfect launch these days. I wonder if we’ll see more complaints when the PS4 launches in Europe later this month.
